AMDA Youth Charity Visit Report

On 22nd March 2026, the youth of the Archdiocese of Mbarara Development Association (AMDA), in partnership with the TELLEM Foundation, undertook a charity visit to the Missionaries of the Poor – Good Shepherd Home in Mengo, Kisenyi.

This outreach formed part of their Lenten observance, particularly the pillar of almsgiving, expressed through acts of compassion and solidarity with the less privileged.


Activities During the Visit

The visit commenced with a guided tour of the home, providing participants with a deeper understanding of the daily realities and needs of the children under care.

It culminated in the celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, during which prayers were offered for the repose of the soul of the late Emmanuel Tumusiime, in whose memory the TELLEM Foundation was established.

The programme also included:

  • Handover of assorted gifts
  • A cake-cutting ceremony to celebrate residents born in March

Donations and Symbolic Contributions

Among the items donated were:

  • Fruit tree seedlings, in alignment with Pope Francis’ Laudato Si’ call for environmental stewardship
  • A Paschal Candle, symbolizing hope and goodwill in anticipation of the Easter season

About the Good Shepherd Home

The Good Shepherd Home in Kisenyi is managed by the Missionaries of the Poor, under the leadership of Brother Ricardo.

The home:

  • Provides care and shelter to children with special needs and various impairments
  • Currently supports 49 girls
  • Operates with the help of 20 caregivers
  • Relies largely on divine providence and the generosity of well-wishers
